Session 9: Cognitive Development—Science Assignment

In this assignment, you’ll identify cognitive skill-building events in the area of scientific reasoning.

Instructions

Step 1

You’ll watch the video Exploring Whale Blubber in Coaching Companion™.

Step 2

Then, you’ll tag it for at least three cognitive skill-building events in the Scientific Reasoning portion of the preschool Cognition domain in the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework:

Scientific Reasoning

  • Child observes and describes observable phenomena (objects, materials, organisms, and events).
  • Child engages in scientific talk.
  • Child compares and categorizes observable phenomena.
  • Child asks a question, gathers information, and makes predictions.
  • Child plans and conducts investigations and experiments.
  • Child analyzes results, draws conclusions, and communicates results.
